The building of the Humayun's Tomb was inspired from the tomb of the Persian Mongol ruler, Oljeytu, at Sultaniyya. It is complex structure but has its own charm and grandeur. Thousands of travelers from all over the world visit the Humayun's Tomb every year. It is counted among one of the must visit monuments Humayun's Tomb in Delhi was built by his beloved wife Hamida Banu Begam. Its construction work started in the year of 1569, which is thirteen years after the death of Humayun. It took about eight long years for the tomb to be completed. It was declared UNESCO World Heritage site in year 1993.

History

Humayun died in 1556 AD following a fall from stairs. He was laid to rest at his palace at Purana Quilla in Delhi. Following his death, Delhi was attacked by Hemu, the Hindu general and Chief Minister of Adil Shah Suri of Suri Dynasty. After Humayun's death on January 20, 1556, his body was first buried in Delhi's old fort. He later brought Khangar Baig to Sirhind in Punjab because he feared that the Hindu King Hemu, who had defeated the Mughal army in Agra and Delhi in October 1556, did not get any damages to the tomb by acquiring that old fort. In 1558, the tomb was supervised by his son Mughal ruler Akbar. Akbar visited the tomb in 1571, when he was almost completely formed. Humayun's mausoleum was made by the order of Akbar , the third ruler of the Mughal Empire, after 9 years of his death, his work began in 1565 and in 1572 AD, its construction work was completed, at that time the construction of this tomb was about 1.5 million rupees Were engaged. Bega Begum gave the money to build the building and grave. When Humayun died in 1556, Begum Begum had a great regret for her death and that is why she decided to make a tomb-e-humayun in Humayun's memory. According to Ain-e-Akbari, a documentary was made on this tomb during Akbar's reign in the 16th century. Following her husband's death, the grieving queen Bega Begum set out for Mecca to undertake the Hajj pilgrimage and vowed to build a magnificent mausoleum in his memory. According to a contemporary historian Abd al-Qadir Bandaiuni, this mausoleum was built by the Persian architect Mirak Mirza Ghias (Mirza Thiyahuddin), who was summoned specifically to this building from Herat, Bukhara (in present day Uzbekistan). He designed the Herat and several buildings of India too. Even before the completion of this building, they settled down, but his son Syed Muhammad ibn Mirraq Thiyaudin completed his father's work and the tomb was completed in 1571.
