Gurugram

Introduction

Gurugram Sub City Gurgaon or Gurugram is located in the National Capital Region. It is considered as an important part of Delhi NCR. Although it is part of Haryana state but more linked with Delhi. Its lies close to the Delhi International and the Domestic Airports. Gurgaon has emerged as the hub of IT and other new-age businesses. It is having large number Multi-national companies offices due to which large number of employees and job seekers, visit this modern sub-city. Its proximity to the national capital of Delhi is an added advantage. Gurgaon enjoys all the facilities available in Delhi. Gurgaon is home to offices of several MNCs. The Gurgaon district of Haryana has several places of tourist interest like the Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary, Damdama Lake and Shama. You must be enjoying being a resident of Gurgaon as the city offers anything and everything you could ask for; cubs, night life, theatre, malls, real estate, spas, boutiques, offices and the list can be never ending. The city is not only the fastest growing one but is also the financial and industrial center! Yes, the Millennium City as know it. Maruti Suzuki Private Limited was the first company that set up a manufacturing unit in the city in 1970s making cars. Gurugram has now emerged to become the city with the third highest per capita income in India. It is also known as the Cyber City. It's no wonder then that the city has seen its market booming over the last ten years. This Gurgaon city accounts for a major piece of income tax for Haryana.

History

'Gur' comes from the word Guru (a teacher) while the term 'goan' means a village. Its literary mean is Village of a teacher. Legend says that Gurgaon was a token given to Guru Dronacharya by Kauvas and Pandavas for his lessons on archery. Gurgaon was ruled by many rulers one by one From Muhammad of Ghor, Firoz Shah Tuqhlaq, the city also witnessed the reign of Akbar. The Britishers annexed Gurgaon through the Treaty of Surji-Anjangaon after the Second Anglo-Maratha War. In the mid 19th century Gurgaon was part of the princely protectorate of Pataudi which was ruled by the Nawab of Patudi-Iftikhar Ali Khan Pataudi, the grandfather of the famous bolly actor Saif Ali Kan. In the independent India, the city fell under the state of Punjab but in the year 1966 fell in to the administration of the state of Haryana. On 27 September 2016, Manohar Lal Khattar officially announced that the Union Government had approved the name change, and thus the city and district would henceforth be known as Gurugram.

Location

Gurgaon is a district major city in Haryana and the heart of a main industrial area. Although it is part of Haryana state but it is often treated as part of Delhi due to its very good transport and road connectivity. Gurugram lies in south-west of Delhi. While traveling from Delhi to Gurugram, we will not realize, when we enter in Gurugram region. It is part of National Capital Region. Their is huge public movement, on daily basis, in between Delhi and Gurugram. This satellite city lies in Northern India in Haryana state. If we take a look at Haryana map, we will find that Gurugram lies in south-east of Haryana state. It is also close from Rajasthan. National Highway connecting Delhi to Jaipur, passes through Gurgaon sub-city. Its distance from Delhi IGI Airport is just 04 kms. Due to this, all major standard, deluxe and luxury hotels have invested in this sub-city and offering high standard of hospitality service.

Tourist Attractions

This millennium city has marvelous architecture, which is really noticeable but apart of architecture Gurgaon also has some tourist attraction apart from Delhi. Sheetala Devi Temple This famous Hindu temple is located one and a half kilometers in the suburbs of Gurgaon near a pond. Also referred to as a 'Shakti Peeth', the presiding deity of this temple is Mata Sheetala Devi the goddess of small-pox. Sultanpur Bird Century and Dumdum Lake is also a must to see place in Gurgaon.

How to reach Gurugram

Gurgaon is well linked by rail and road to Delhi, Faridabad and Jaipur. It is also accessible for all the major cities of India.

By Flight

The nearest airport is Indira Gandhi International Airport, at New Delhi. It is just 04 kms away from the Gurgaon.

By Road

The state transport buses connect Gurgaon to neighbouring cities within the state and in neighbouring states. Here we will find large number of tourist cabs service for Delhi and other places. Due to presence of all major private companies office, cab service is most popular and frequently mode of transport.

By Train

If you are planning to reach Gurugram by Train option, then available options are Gurgaon railway station which easily connects to Delhi and other places in Rajasthan like Jaipur, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Rewari etc. If you are coming from Central India, North India, East India or South India, then railway stations of Delhi are best due to very good train connectivity. Delhi railway stations are in radius of 30kms from Gurugram and well connected by cabs.

Best time to visit

Gurgaon is hot and humid in the summers, and cold in the winters. The average temperature ranges from 28°C to 46°C during summer and 2°C to 5°C during winter. Summers in Gurgaon is very hot. Here construction works are still going on thus we will find it more dusty in Summers. May month is the time of severe heat waves, dusty storms which sometimes make it challenging to travel this city. Winters are still better time to visit this place when temperature takes dip but its wide road network makes it convenient to traverse through this sub-city. Winter period is from December to February month. The cold wave from the Himalayan region makes winters very chilly. In summers, the heat wave is immense and adequate precaution has to be taken before going out in the afternoons. So the best time to visit November-March. Presence of monsoon in negligible. Monsoon period is from July to October but rarely receives heavy rainfall. We can expect low to moderate rainfall in Gurugram sub-city.
